In the Credit River Valley, on the former summer estate of Arthur Huston, with his Hollywood friends and family—Orangeville has been offering a very challenging layout for every caliber of player who visits—going all the way back to the 1930’s when Bob Hope and Bing Crosby would hop off the train for a visit, a drink, and a round.

Later, because Conn Smythe was a member, the Leafs Rookie Golf Tournament was held at Orangeville annually. There’s a lot of ghosts on the property, and keep an eye out for the picture of the Hustons beside their fireplace with three Academy Awards—but don’t let all that distract from the fact that this is a great example of an early 20th century golf course

Each hole of the 2800 yard (9-hole) course is well framed by large, mature trees. The large, undulating greens make putting an enjoyable challenge. The 373 yard par four 9th hole is the most demanding on the course. It is a sweeping dogleg left that requires an accurate first shot from an elevated tee. This sets up a tricky approach shot down hill to a very undulating green.

The 506 yard 7th hole is a very picturesque par five, and the mature trees that surround the entire hole give it a park-like setting. Add the gorgeous par three 8th hole, and this one of the best finishing series in Ontario golf.

Orangeville Golf Club is easy to get to, and a pleasure to play. If you listen carefully, the history of this former industrial valley, with its two railroads, mills, and Hollywood royalty will come to life.
